Background:
Dr. Murtadha Arif Bin Sahbudin is an academic and computer scientist with over 15 years of experience in teaching, research, and industry. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Applied Data Analytics, University Brunei Darussalam, where he teaches Cloud Computing, Computer Organization, and Project in High-Performance Computing (HPC). His role integrates advanced teaching methodologies with research-driven approches to equip students with skills in cutting-edge technologies and methodologies.
Dr. Murtadha’s research career was significantly shaped during his tenure at Università degli Studi di Messina, Italy (2017–2021), where he completed his PhD in Cyber-Physical Systems. His doctoral research focused on the development of innovative systems for audio fingerprinting and IoT-based applications in FM radio broadcasting. This included designing advanced systems for analog signal retrieval using IoT and APIs and optimizing database clustering for enhanced performance. His research contributions were complemented by active collaborations with European research programs, bridging academic research with industry applications.
Dr. Murtadha’s research portfolio includes several high-impact publications. His most notable work, “A New Fingerprint Definition for Effective Song Recognition,” published in Pattern Recognition Letters (Elsevier, 2022), introduced a groundbreaking approach to song fingerprinting, advancing music recognition technology. Other significant contributions include a systematic review on epidemic intelligence for infectious disease surveillance (PeerJ Computer Science) and research on big data analytics for proactive infectious disease prevention (Journal of Big Data, Springer). His work reflects a commitment to leveraging advanced technologies to solve pressing challenges in public health and informatics.
In addition to his academic achievements, Dr. Murtadha has industry experience in technical and managerial roles, having worked at Sime Darby Motors and BMW & MINI Auto Bavaria between 2008 and 2014. He led IT infrastructure projects, developed software systems, and optimized logistics operations, demonstrating his ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems.
Dr. Murtadha’s technical expertise spans backend programming (Python, Java, C++), cloud computing platforms (Azure, Google Cloud), machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch), and database management systems (MongoDB, PostgreSQL). His technical and research skills have supported his success in securing competitive grants, including a national project on infectious disease monitoring funded by Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education.
